Soil-Free Root Pouch Phenotyping - Online Store

Pouch Positioning Panels hold Growth Pouches for soilless root phenotyping and plant bioassays with germination paper. Growth Pouches can be placed on one or both sides of each acrylic (black, 4 mm PMMA) Positioning Panel; the Panels can be placed upright in a dedicated storage container ("PhenoRacks") equipped with a rail system or standard racks available in the laboratory. Two inexpensive yet efficient mounting systems can be used to securely attach plastic sleeves with germination paper to the panels, "rubber bands" or office binders. The panels have a special zig-zag pattern on the top to hold rubber bands securely in place. Sets include 10 growth pouch positioning panels. Two sizes are available online: A4 (position panel body size 22.5 x 30 cm) and "Large" (panel body size 29 x 38 cm). Variants made from new (standard) or recycled PMMA "ECO" are available - Go Green! PhenoRacks, and shading panels not included; sets available in the online store. Shading panels (black, 1 mm PMMA) fitting the Growth Pouch Positioning Panels in sizes A4 and "large". Shading panels are a slightly narrower and shorter than the positioning panel area to i) prevent tension when using binders/rubber bands for fixation, ii) allow height adjustment according to the seeds. Two variants matched to the Positioning Panel sizes are offered: A4 (22 x 28 cm) and "Large" (28 x 34 cm). Two standard sizes of Root Pouch Phenotype Sets (Type 1, with Positioning Panels) are available. The sets contain 20 or 30 Pouch Positioning Panels (depending on size) in a matched storage container (PE) equipped with a stainless steel rail system (PhenoRacks). Germination paper pouches can be placed on one or both sides of the central acrylic (black, 4 mm PMMA) Positioning Panels. Shading panels (1 mm PMMA, black; 40 or 60) fit snugly over the outer surfaces of the pouches; they are slightly narrower to avoid tension at the sides and shorter to adjust the height to the seed position. Two systems can be used to attach the Growth Pouches & Shading Panels to the Positioning Panel, "rubber bands" or office binder clips. The Positioning Plates have a special zig-zag pattern on the top to hold the rubber bands securely in place. When hanging, the Positioning Plates are spaced ~1 cm apart. Germination paper can either be tapped into the water/nutrient solution at the bottom of the PhenoRack, or if closed plastic sleeves are used, a small amount of water/nutrient solution can be stored at the bottom of each plastic sleeve. The Set 1 (suitable for ~ A4 or letter size germination paper) contains:

• 1x Storage Container (ID: 37 x 27 x 31.5 cm, LxWxH; light grey; PE)
• 2x Rails (stainless steel, 6 mm; mounted on L side)
• 20x Pouch Positioning Panels (Body area: 22.5 cm width, 30 cm height; with hooks for rail sytem)
• 40x Light Shielding Panels (22x28 cm)

The Set 2 (suitable for e.g. 10 x 15 inch germination paper) contains:

• 1x Storage Container (ID: 57 x 37 x 41.5 cm, LxWxH; light grey, PE)
• 2x Rails (stainless steel, 8 mm; mounted on L side)
• 30x Pouch Positioning Panels (Body area: 29 cm width, 38 cm height; with hooks for rails)
• 60x Light Shielding Panels (28x34 cm)

Positioning Panels of Set 1 ECO, and Set 2 ECO are manufactured from recycled PMMA.

Two types of manipulation stands are available for working with classic "Type 1" Seed Germination Pouch Positioning Panels: i) 30° angled (from horizontal), or ~90° (nearly upright). In brief, the 90°, vertical growth pouch stand (1 cm thick PP, beige; with SS metal pins) is particularly useful when root pouches are stored on hanging rails (PhenoRacks) and need to be removed from the storage system for set-up, imaging and manipulation. The 30° angled stand (4 mm PMMA, black; aluminum spacers, SS screws) is particularly useful for pouch placement during root / nodule sampling etc. Both types of stands greatly reduce the risk of damaging shoots protruding from the top of the growth pouches. The 90° stand can be used when positioning trays with two growth pouches (on each side), while the 30° manipulation stand holds panels with one growth pouch attached.
