Q-RP2LP - High Range Animal Respirometry Package, to study CO2 and O2 exchange in mammals and other animals with higher metabolic rates. The Q-RP2LP system measures respiration using an open-flow gas exchange system. High concentration CO2 gas analyser (Q-S153) and O2 sensor (Q-S102) are used to detect the levels of CO2 and O2 in the gas supplied to the animal chamber. The gas is then pumped through the chamber at a known flow rate. The levels of CO2 and O2 in the gas exiting the chamber are measured. The dedicated LoggerPro software (included) calculates the respiratory rate as VCO2 and VO2 and the respiratory quotient (RQ). In combination with the optional Gas Switching System (Q-GSS), measurements of respiration rates and RQ can be automated for up to 7 animals (8 channel system including reference). Applications include a wide range of respirometry and metabolic studies in more active animals.

If you are looking for a smaller, highly portable CO2-O2-analyser system for animal respirometry in the wild, the Q-S159 CO2 and O2 Analyser is a field portable, combined oxygen and carbon dioxide analysis instrument including different pump ranges and mass flow meters integrated into a compact, dust- and waterproof casing. Equally at home in the lab, the farm, the veterinary clinic or the field, the Q-S159 is the core of a complete field ready animal respirometry system. Custom versions for different CO2 and O2 ranges, and custom respiration chambers available. Get in contact to discuss details.
To measure the CO2 and O2 exchange of smaller, less active animals incl. insects, consider the Low Range Respirometry Package - with lower CO2 / O2 measurement ranges of 0-2000 ppm / 0-25%.
For determining the metabolic rate of aquatic animals, the Q-AQUA Aquatic Animal Respirometry System and alternative set-ups are available at intermittent flow / stop-flow to headspace configurations.
